On October 12, the 300,000-tonne-class crude oil terminal project in the Bohe New Port Area of Maoming Port, Guangdong, passed completion acceptance, laying a solid hardware foundation for the terminal’s subsequent commissioning and operation.

It is understood that the 300,000-tonne-class crude oil terminal project in the Bohe New Port Area of Maoming Port is a key project of Guangdong Province. It involves the construction of one 300,000-tonne-class crude oil terminal berth, with a total berth length of 404 meters and a designed annual throughput capacity of 16.5 million tonnes.

Construction began in November 2022. The project has successively completed the installation of 6,500-tonne-class caissons, the installation of 145 deepwater cast-in-place piles with no overburden, the construction of an offshore mass concrete platform with more than 2,400 cubic meters poured in a single pour, reef blasting totaling 1 million cubic meters, and the installation of process pipelines extending 5 kilometers.

A person in charge of Maoming Port said that the project has a designed throughput capacity of 16.5 million tonnes per year, fills the shortfall in large-scale crude oil receiving and unloading capacity, lays a solid foundation for building Maoming into a world-class petrochemical industrial base, and safeguards regional energy security in Guangdong. The project adds a direct-berthing berth for very large crude carriers (VLCCs) in South China, enriches China’s maritime crude oil import routes, and boosts energy trade cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative.

After completion, the project will serve the development of the South China Sea (Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area) maritime energy corridor, take part in Belt and Road cooperation, and reduce crude oil transport costs for petrochemical enterprises in Maoming and its hinterland.
